There are plenty of things that cats do to entertain themselves and us, but what activities are they best at? What ways do cats spend most of their time when we’re not around? We’ve wondered this ourselves so we put together a list of the top 5 things that cats love more than anything else.
Limiting a list to only 5 options is definitely short, but here are the top 5 things that cats do best. Be sure to let us know if we missed anything too!
Cats can spend up to a staggering 20 hours per day just sleeping. Cats absolutely love sleeping and there’s no denying that. Frankly, I think we should all implement this cat practice a bit more in our lives- go ahead, take that cat nap in the sunny spot, preferably next to your fur baby.
2. Hunting (or Playing)
Cats have survived as a species up until this point because of the very reason that they are great hunters. However, your house cat doesn’t really need to hunt down critters since you feed them regularly. If your cat doesn’t hunt, you should encourage regular playtime since playing stimulates the hunting experience for the cat and helps to keep their reflexes sharp as well as their body healthy.
Cats need to scratch more than you need your morning coffee- literally. It’s vital to their health and a good cat owner will provide their pet with plenty of scratch toys they can tear up instead of the sofa. (NEVER declaw your cat as it is a cruel practice that can lead to a multitude of illnesses.)
Cats love food possibly more than humans. While cats are also known to be picker eaters than dogs (“Hooman, why is my food bowl empty?” the cat asks, standing over a half-full bowl) they do have a strong and persistent love for food.
5. Solitude (and Company!)
Cats are the most independent domesticated animals. They like their alone time. But they also love company and their people. Spending time with your cat is good for the both of you.
